Before you finally choose your knitted pattern, take some time to knit a work example – however it's not the work example you usually knit to measure the number of stitches in the breadth and the rows in the height.
Only by that you can form a better opinion about the possibilities and the effect of the pattern according to your way of knitting – especially if you deal with a fancy pattern. This work example should help you to make a deliberated decision and become known with the method of operation of your pattern before you start with the real knitting work.

Wide band pattern 1

The number of stitches is dividable by 8 plus 2, plus 2 stitches on the edge. 1st row: All stitches right. 2nd row: All stitches left. 3rd row: 1 stitch on the edge, * 2 stitches left, ** knit up of the 2 following stitches the hindmost at first from behind right, then the 1st stitch right, repeat 2 times from **, afterwards constantly repeat from *, at last 2 stitches left, 1 stitch on the edge. 4th row: 1 stitch on the edge, 2 stitches right, * 6 stitches left, 2 stitches right, constantly repeat from *, 1 stitch on the edge. Constantly repeat row 3 and 4.

Wide band pattern 2

The number of stitches is dividable by 9 plus 3, plus 2 stitches on the edge, 1st row: 1 stitch on the edge, * 3 stitches right, 3 times each cross 2 stitches to the right (see page 12), constantly repeat from *, at last 3 stitches right, 1 stitch on the edge. 2, row: All stitches left. Constantly repeat these both rows.

Herring bone pattern 1

The number of stitches is dividable by 8 plus 4, plus 2 stitches on the edge. 1st row: 1 stitch on the edge, * 4 stitches right, cross 2 stitches to the right, cross 2 stitches to the left (see page 12), constantly repeat from *, at last 4 stitches right, 1 stitch on the edge. 2nd row: All stitches left. Constantly repeat these both rows.

Blade of grass pattern

The number of stitches is dividable by 5 plus 3, plus 2 stitches on the edge. 1st row: 1 stitch on the edge, * 3 stitches right, lift off 1 stitch left, 1 stitch right, 1 foldover, then pull the lifted stitch over the right stitch and the foldover, constantly repeat from *, at last 3 stitches right, 1 stitch on the edge. 2nd row: All stitches left. Clapper pattern 1

Comb patter 2
