The casting on can be achieved on different forms – every have its own advantages. Every knitter should to test, which casting ons she/he likes. The common casting on is the cross beat up, which will be achieved with 2 needles therewith the 1st row doesn’t be to fix. While the continuation of the knitting it is very important to attend that every casting on have a front - and a back side to be clear on which side begins a knitting pattern.

Measure at first the end of a thread: 15cm + ca. 1 cm for every cast on stitch. On 30 casting ons they are 15cm + 30cm = 45cm. But calculate for fix wool and thicker needles 2cm for every stitch. Make here a slip knot and tighten this around 2 knitting needles (picture 1). Put the ball lying to the thread over the forefinger from the left hand and the end of the thread over the thumb. Both threads lay to the palm of the hand, where they will be hold with the ring finger and the little finger. * Now lift up the left below thread with the needle (picture 2). Pick up the thread from the forefinger with the needle from right to left side and draw it trough the thumb noose (picture 3). Take the thumb out of the noose and pick with this the below thread, which come the needle, as noose. Although the casting on tighten around the needle (picture 4). Continue it from the *. Lastly draw the first needle out of the casting on. The facing side to the knitter is the front side. To begin a knitting pattern on this side, knit a returning course left.
Tighten a slip knot around the knitting needle in the right hand. Put the thread around the left forefinger and draw on the needle twisted nooses. It is a very simple cast on, which appears on both sides even.
Knot a slip knot around the needle. Take this in the left hand and the thread around the left forefinger, which leads to the ball. Puncture with the right needle in this 1st noose as on the right stitch. * haul over the working thread. Pick up the front wire at the right needle and puncture from the right to the left side and repeat it from *. The front side of the beat up is the facing side to the knitter.
It is the same as at the cross cast on (page 14) until to the 3rd picture. Don’t take out your thumb of the noose but pick up the back thread of the thumb noose (right picture) and haul over the working thread. Then take out the thumb of the noose and pick up the below hanging thread with this again as noose. Tighten coeval the stitch on the needle. It results 2 casting ons (you have only 3 at the beginning).
Crochet a chain stitch with a hook (so many chain stitches as the cast on demand). Turn it. Pick up the upper wire netting from every chain stitch and with the knitting needle the last noose. This cast on is used for knitting whose cast on will be knitted on in contrary course.
The position of the thread is as the cross cast on. Span the thread between the thumb and the forefinger. Then pick up the thread above (needle lace is pointed below) and draw it to the front. Turn the needle lace above, so that it result a noose at the needle. * Now pick up the thread, which lay to the forefinger, from the right to the left. Then pick up the thread leading to the thumb from below to above and pick up again the leading thread to the forefinger as before. Haul it over below the thumb thread, so that results 2 nooses at the needle. Repeat it from *. Turn it after the desired number of stitches.
1st row: 1 selvedge stitch. Cast off the in front lying stitch right in turn. Slip up the back lying stitch left. Although continue the thread to the front; last 1 selvedge stitch. Turn it.
2nd row: As the 1st row, that is to say to slip up left the before casted off stitch with the in front continued thread and cast off the before slipped stitch right. This cast on is used especially for knitting, which begins with an edge border. Knit the before slipped stitch right and the before casted off stitch left.
You can make it in 2 forms: 1) Cast off the whole casting off at single needle or of a pair of needles (to one of here noted manners) and Then slip and separate this on 4 needles 2) Cast off the half of a casting off on a pair of needles. Then create a new pair of needles and cast off hereon the 2nd half of the casting off. Then draw out of every pair of needles one needle from the half of the stitches, so that lays a quarter of the whole casting off on one needle.
